Vote: do you believe it's acceptable to screen for the sex of embryos?

Preimplantation genetics diagnosis (PGD) is a form of prenatal diagnosis and can be used to screen embryos to identify gender. Although this is not legal in the UK, it's becoming increasingly popular abroad and is legal in other countries including the States.

Two of the women who feature in 8 Boys and Wanting a Girl undergo PGD in order to determine which embryo (obtained via IVF) will be a girl. Those embryos are then implanted in the mother's uterus.

With its eugenic implications, PGD triggers conflicting views in society. People have strong opinions on whether gender selection for non-medical reasons is ethical.

We'd like to hear your views on PGD, purely in terms of using it for sex selection. Please share your opinions by voting and by submitting your comments below.
