Series 3
Series Summary
A series of film poems examining the diversity of five lives thrown together by circumstance, set in flats within a Victorian tenement in the West End of Glasgow.
They have been made by the inaugural winner of the Film London and Channel 4 Jarman Award, Luke Fowler. The tenement featured is where the artist film-maker once lived with his former partner and the other people featured were their neighbours at the time. The four shorts focus on these individuals brought together through shared residence.
This commission from Channel 4 formed part of Fowler's Jarman Award prize, the only one if its kind where an artist film-maker is rewarded with both financial assistance (this year's prize is £10,000) and the opportunity to broadcast their work on primetime national television.
The Jarman Award was set up last year to recognise artists working with the moving image, whose work, like Derek Jarman's, resists conventional definition, encompassing innovation and excellence.
