  1. My 18 year old daughter cares for her grandfather who had a major stroke in 2008 but is very distressed as no one seems to support her, Sometimes I feel I let her down as am unable to support as much as I have three other children under 8. It was nice to see that there are some other children who are also helping oter individuals also.

  3. I agree with all the comments below and can see how touched people were by the young man in last night's film. www.youngcarers.net is part of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers and provides young people like him with the chance to safely chat to others in similar situations and to get advice and support from our team of workers. The Princess Royal Trust for Carers also has a network of young carers' services around the country, many of which would be very grateful for either donations or offers of volunteering. To find your nearest one an internet search for "young carers" and your local town or city will normally bring up the right details for you. Best wishes.

  4. Thought that little boy tonight was wonderful - so caring and so modest with it. Would love to watch the clip again though - it finished so quickly. It must be on here somewhere?

  5. I was so touched by the story of the little boy caring for his sickly mother on this evenings 3minute wonder programme. I think he is a true hero of a boy and as write this Im holding back the tears- so touched! I want to volunteer to help young kids like that, even if its only taking them out or something to reward their hard work and huge responsibility at such a young age. I must admit, I didnt find the website that easy to navigate. they could have perhaps also had a live chatroom to give someone like myself an immediate contact to pursue this. I will look further into it anyway, because this looks to me like something I could really try to make a difference to.

  6. I just watched the 3 minute wonder on a little boy child carer for his mum. I just wanted to take time out of what I deemed as a 'busy schedule' and say how amazing I think he was. The statement of how special he feels because he is helping someone and not just sitting around playing video games has really put a smile on my face and has made me re-evaluate my 'busy schedule'. I think if the planet had more people like him, the world would be a nice place. Good on you, and every other person who does anything similar and thinks the same way. Everyone thanks you. x Jo, student

  7. Thank you for a very moving film. I appreciate this page offers sites that might help young carers, but I'm disappointed not to also find info on how to support young carers, which was specifically trailed at the end of ths show. Feeling as I did when I finished watching I would happily have clicked through to donate money to a relevant organisation - I'm sure there are some who offer holidays to young carers... could you not offer more links on this...

  8. I've just watched 3 Minute Wonder, which I have found distressing to say the least. A 10 year old girl called Charlotte was the carer for her mother who suffered with depression as well as some physical problems. It was impossible to see Charlotte as a 10 year old, she was so articulate and mature she seemed more like a 30 year old trapped in a childs body. The programme opened with the mother saying that she "just couldn't be bothered". Then she proceded in talking to her daugher (and younger son) like they were adults, expecting them to make everything ok. I understand that this mother is ill, but she is unbelievably selfish, thinking of herself and not of her children. My mother may not have had the problems that this woman has, but any problems that she did have were kept totally hidden from me, so that I could enjoy my childhood, as every child should. This woman should sort out her own problems, get suitable care, and allow her children to have a life!!

  9. You can clearly see how much a young carer needs a break from everyday life and how little time they have to be a "proper" kid. There are organisations who do they utmost to give these children a break. Prime example - and unique with their continuity factor - is the Honeypot Charity. Visit their website on www.honeypot.co.uk - you can find all kinds of ways you can help young carers getting a much needed break from their everyday struggles.
