Series 3 Summary
As season three begins, Max and Caroline embark on their second attempt to launch a cupcake business, this time from a serving hatch next to the diner.
Episode 1 - And the Soft Opening
Business is booming for Max and Caroline's new pop-up shop selling cupcakes, and their enterprise gains huge publicity after an unfortunate incident outside their serving window involving a rock star.
Jealous of the girls' success, Han tries to steal some of the attention for his diner. Meanwhile, Sophie and Oleg do their best to stay friends after their break-up.
Episode 2 - And the Kickstarter
When Caroline rips her favourite trousers, she starts a fundraising campaign to get an expensive new pair.
Max is finally forced to get a smartphone, but when she sends a catty text to Earl she hurts Caroline's feelings and has to do her best to smooth things over with her friend.
Episode 3 - And the Kitty Kitty Spank Spank
When a stray cat starts hanging around their flat, Max grows fond of it and wants to keep it, but Caroline is worried about taking on another pet and wants to find it a better home.
The girls try to persuade one of their colleagues to take on the feline, and when a customer volunteers to adopt it they are delighted, but when they see the woman's apartment they have second thoughts.
Episode 4 - And the Group Head
Oleg obtains a new cappuccino maker for Max and Caroline's cupcake business, but the girls can't work out how to use it.
They take temporary jobs at a coffee shop, hoping to learn how to be baristas in a very short period of time.
Han hires a new waiter, Luis, for the day shift at the diner. Sophie and Oleg are missing each other but are afraid to share their true feelings.
Episode 5 - And the Cronuts
Max and Caroline's cupcake business starts losing trade to a fashionable new hybrid food called the 'cronut'.
They try to cash in by selling a copycat version of the craze, but when they run out of stock to give their customers, they come up with their own fresh culinary trend: 'cake fries'.
Episode 6 - And the Piece of Sheet
Caroline feels guilty when she splashes out on hair extensions with money from her and Max's joint funds, so she buys a new set of bed linen for Max to make up for it.
However, she gives the worn set of bed sheets away to charity without realising that Max's old pillowcase has huge sentimental value for her, as she has had it since she was a child and can't sleep without it.
Episode 7 - And the Girlfriend Experience
Han is in a fix when his mother pays a visit from Korea, as he has sent her photos of an exotic dancer claiming that she is his sophisticated, deeply religious, Harvard-educated girlfriend.
He begs Max and Caroline to get him out of trouble by finding the stripper, giving her a makeover and persuading her to play the part of his real-life girlfriend in front of his mother.
Episode 8 - And the 'It' Hole
Caroline is delighted when a good-looking young man asks her on a date to one of the city's most fashionable restaurants, but on the night he stands her up.
Max decides that Caroline should not waste the hard-to-obtain reservation and takes her along to the hip eatery to cheer her up.
But the performance of the staff leaves something to be desired and Max ends up serving the food herself.
Episode 9 - And the Pastry Porn
Caroline encourages Max to apply for a place on a course at the Manhattan School of Pastry when she finds a brochure for the college hidden in her friend's bedroom.
Handsome French master baker Nicolas, who owns and teaches at the school, sets Max the task of baking a classic tart for her entrance exam.
But two things stand in the way of Max's ambitions: the huge cost of the tuition fees and the nonchalant attitude with which she covers her fear of disappointment.
Episode 10 - And the First Day of School
On her first day at pastry school, Max is intrigued and distracted by irreverent class clown Deke.
Caroline is disappointed with the routine nature of her new job in the school's office, which she has taken to pay for Max's tuition fees.
However, she soon finds something to pass the time - trying to flirt with handsome teacher Nicolas.
Episode 11 - And the Life After Death
When Caroline hears that Antonia, her former nanny, has died, she and Max go on a road trip to attend the funeral in Philadelphia, hitching a lift with Bebe from the pastry school.
But at the service, Caroline is upset to discover that Antonia's friends and family have no idea who she is.
Episode 12 - And the French Kiss
Max and Deke grow closer while studying together at the pastry school, although Caroline starts to find his constant presence irritating.
Caroline is enjoying her flirtation with Chef Nicolas and wants a serious relationship with him until she makes an unwelcome discovery.
Episode 13 - And the Big But
Max realises she may have romantic feelings for Deke as they study for their pastry school exam, but she worries about ruining their friendship.
Now that she knows Chef Nicolas is married, Caroline tries to keep him at arm's length, but circumstances soon throw temptation in her way.
Episode 14 - And the Dumpster Sex
Deke takes Max back to his place after a great first date, but she finds that his living arrangements are not at all what she was expecting.
When Caroline has a suspicious car towed away from the front of the cupcake shop, she becomes convinced that the vehicle's owner is out to get her and is too scared to stay alone in the flat.
Episode 15 - And the Icing on the Cake
As Deke and Max's relationship becomes more serious, Deke invites Max's friends over for a party at his makeshift dumpster home.
Caroline continues to fend off the unwanted advances of married man Chef Nicolas and learns a significant secret about Deke's background.
Episode 16 - And the ATM
Max decides to break up with Deke now she knows he is from a rich background but hid his wealth from her.
Deke tries to regain Max's affection, but she insists that their relationship can't work because they're from two different worlds.
Meanwhile, Han gets a cash machine for the diner.
Episode 17 - And the Married Man Sleepover
When Chef Nicolas invites Caroline to dinner at his flat, claiming his wife has no objection to their relationship, she asks Max and Deke to join her to prevent her from doing anything that she might regret.
The girls treat themselves to a special hairdressing appointment, and Max ponders the topic of birth control.
Episode 18 - And the Near Death Experience
Nicolas asks Caroline to have dinner with him, so she tries to get out of it by telling him she'll only go if he leaves his wife.
When he agrees to her terms and informs her that he will start divorce proceedings, she panics and rushes over to his flat with Max to talk him out of it, only to find his wife has turned up from France unexpectedly.
Episode 19 - And the Kilt Trip
The staff of Han's diner travel to Manhattan to have a wild, crazy time in a crowded bar at the St Patrick's Day parade.
Caroline finds herself longing to indulge in her former rich girl holiday tradition of drinking cocktails at an expensive hotel, but when she takes Max along to a fancy venue, it's not as much fun as she thought.
Episode 20 - And the Not Broke Parents
Deke invites Max and Caroline to join him and his rich parents for dinner at their lavish home.
Max is uncomfortable and tongue-tied in the affluent surroundings, until Deke's mother confides in her about her secret past.
Chef Nicolas closes the pastry school and returns to France with his wife.
Episode 21 - And the Wedding Cake Cake Cake
Max and Caroline have their work cut out for them when they agree to make a wedding cake for a bride-to-be.
But the young woman is so indecisive that she can't make up her mind about what style of cake she wants - or anything else about the wedding.
Episode 22 - And the New Lease of Life
When Max and Caroline discover the lease is up on their apartment, they're forced to find the original tenant and have him re-sign, claiming he still lives there, or risk being evicted.
Episode 23 - And the Free Money
Sophie is smitten with her new boyfriend Nicky, who is a big-shot bookmaker with membership of the VIP lounge at the racetrack.
But when the couple take Caroline and Max to the races as their guests, Caroline's long-standing enthusiasm for horse racing gets completely out of hand and she ends up gambling beyond her means.
