Lisa’s top 5 hair colour tips:

  1. Blonde is one of our kindest shades and most often some kind of lightening will make you look younger! However it is the hardest to ever get to shine, so it’s all in the tones that are used. Never have just the one shade of highlights or else it will look dull and flat.  Having several shades of blonde including one darker shade very near your own will make your blonde look natural and lively. One great trick is to add an iridescent gold, this will always glimmer.
  2. There are many ways that you can make grey hair look younger, a few well placed highlights and a fresh cut can make a world of difference – don’t forget that readdressing your make up colours is definite must! The key is to get the right shade of blondes - Helen Mirren is a great example as her hair is perfect! If you add a brightener into grey it will almost make the grey stronger, cleaner and more 'sparkly' which can give an instant glamorous look.  The best thing about this way of dealing with grey is that the maintenance is really low!
  3. The best way to take years off is different for everyone, but I think that it’s all based around getting the right tone next to your skin. Most people get this wrong by using warmer tones leading to hair that goes red or brassy and artificial looking. The trick is to keep the base neutral especially when covering up grey hair, but to then warm up with a gorgeous set of mixed lights.  This, when it is done right is almost breathtaking! I always say to all my clients unless people stop you and say 'I LOVE YOUR HAIR’ then I’d change hairdresser! Colour is a great way to create a change, and something that you can really make an impact with.  Consult your hairdresser first as a professional will be able to advise you on what shade will suit your skin tone.
  4. Finish every colour service with a great treatment such a great moisturising treatment. Keep a colour refresher to hand to freshen up your colour in-between visits – either ask your hairdresser to make one up for you or use a really great colour maintenance shampoo and conditioner
  5. Don't be afraid of change! I meet so many clients that are stuck in a colour rut. It's like they think that by keeping the same hairstyle they will stay 25 forever. But in reality the reverse is true; something that suited you 10-15 years ago won't necessarily work for you now. So don't be afraid to let go and try something new. It doesn’t have to be a drastic change; something as simple as changing your parting can make you look so different.

  1. I have 80% natural wave/curl in my hair, but it is very, frizzy all over. No matter what products I use, nothing has ever worked really well. I live in Canada and in the summer it is very humid, is there any product or thing I can do to help with my frizz and maintain my curl in the humid weather without it looking dry and dull. Thank you very much, Ruthie
