Covering Grey

Whether you love or hate your grey, top hair colourist Lisa Shepherd has the best options to help you look your most fabulous and youthful.

SILVER SIREN
If you are like Helen Mirren and can pull off grey graciously you are one of the lucky ones but you still need to maintain the look and brighten up your hair with highlights. Highlights will make the hair look almost blonde rather than grey, giving you a more youthful look. This low maintenance way with grey lasts forever and highlights would probably only need to be done once or twice a year.

GO AWAY GREY
The high maintenance way of getting rid of grey is by visiting a colourist who can do a full cover-up. It is essential to get the base hair colour and tone right and the best way to do this is by keeping the colour quite neutral. To liven up the hair add highlights but this will make it quite costly. Root touch ups will need to be done every 2 -3 weeks so you'll have to be committed, but this really is the way to get the most youthful look.

DIY DYE
The most cost effective way of covering grey is by retouching the colour at home yourself. It is always best to initially go and see a colourist and get the right hair colour to begin with but there is nothing wrong with home colouring as long as you get the products right. Here are some of Lisa's favourite products:
Nice and Easy have a great range that covers grey brilliantly - £4.79
Schwarzkopf have designed a pen that can get right into the roots - £4.69
Excellence L'Oreal is great for blending away the grey - £8.49
