Poor dental hygiene is no laughing matter – there's a plaque plague sweeping the country that's costing the NHS two billion ever year and millions of Brits their teeth! Superstar dentist Dr Uchenna Okoye set out on the streets of Britian to imporive our burshing habitats and has these top tips to ensure that we all brush better.
The type of brush you use and the technique is vital. Get that right – and you won't be plagued by plaque!
First, dump the manual brush for an electric one – it does the work for you – and gives a much more thorough clean than a manual brush.
Brush for two minutes twice a day and you're already on your way to combat plaque. These days brushes are very high tech – some tell you how long to brush for and even when to move onto the next tooth! Failing that get a bathroom radio and brush for the length of a song!
Don't use an electric brush the same way as you would a manual. You don't have to scrub your teeth – let the brush do the work.
Apply a little pressure so the head of the brush makes good contact with the tooth, but not so much that it hurts – get good contact with the tooth and the rotation of the brush will take away the dirt.
And don't forget the back, tops and sides of your teeth. We may just see the fronts – but plaque doesn't have a preference!!!
