Purpose of the Protocol
Channel 4 Online ("Online") is the creative team responsible for the Channel's digital media propositions.
This Channel 4 Online Editorial & Compliance Protocol ("the Protocol") summarises the main rules and procedures in place to ensure that all of Online's activities (including what is published) comply with the law, with regulation where necessary, and generally does not exceed recipients' expectations in ways which might cause harm and/or offence.
All staff working in Online must read this Protocol and be familiar with the rules and procedures it contains. The Protocol should also be issued to all third party suppliers of Online content.
For the avoidance of doubt, the Protocol applies to all content published by Channel 4 on non-linear digital platforms. This includes:
- Video content, including material created exclusively for non-linear digital platforms; full length programmes; clips and trailers
- Text, images, games, quizzes, polls
- Applications and other interactive elements
- Advertising, advertising funded campaigns, content and sponsorship
- User generated content
For all legal and compliance queries, speak with Channel 4's Legal & Compliance Department who advise on all content–related legal and compliance issues in the making, broadcast and publication of content on all Channel 4's platforms.
Remember, it is your responsibility to ensure that appropriate consultation takes place with lawyers from the department at the relevant stage, before content is published.
