Life and Death at 18
MarchThese statistics do not lie. A number of key Government health measures suggest that young people in Britain are on course to claim a dubious first - becoming the first generation to die younger than their parents.
This landmark documentary series takes the temperature of the NHS today, following teams of health professionals treating teenage patients for obesity, self-inflicted harm and cancer, as well as helping them cope with pregnancy. Filmed in hospitals across the Midlands, consultants, surgeons, nurses, midwives and other staff from every level of the NHS talk honestly about the problems they face as they treat young patients who are facing an uncertain future.
From teenage women who would like a gastric band operation as a quick fix to their obesity, to the steady stream of patients arriving at A&E requiring treatment from alcohol-fuelled fights and drink-driving accidents, these films illustrate the cost to an already-stretched NHS of teenagers hitting the health self-destruct button.
