The Family at Christmas
Channel 4's observational documentary series The Family returns for a one-off Christmas special. The Family at Christmas is warm, funny, emotional – and sometimes tense – as the whole family comes together to celebrate.
It's the week before Christmas and things are far from calm in the Hughes household. For some, Christmas is the most exciting time of the year. The youngest, Tom, wants everyone else to be excited too. He's desperate to start opening his presents, but is told he must wait. Dad Simon tries to keep his wife's gift a secret, but she is tidying the house so much that there is nowhere to hide it. Meanwhile Jane is struggling to work out what to buy Simon because he never likes any present she buys. Will this year be different? And will 19-year-old Emily spend her money on socialising or will she give her mum housekeeping cash and buy presents for the family?
Filming with the Hughes family took place 24-hours a day, seven days a week, over 100 days and nights, from December 2007. The Family at Christmas was filmed during this period.
