Film4
Over the festive season, Film4 presents the premieres of two outstanding films. Jafar Panahi's bitter-sweet comedy drama Offside follows the efforts of young Iranian women to sneak into the crucial Iran versus Bahrain World Cup qualifier in 2005, despite a ban on female spectators. Mister Lonely is Harmony Korine's Film4 funded surreal comedy. On a remote island, a Michael Jackson impersonator (Diego Luna) falls in love with a Marilyn Monroe impersonator (Samantha Morton), while Werner Herzog plays a priest who is training a group of nuns to sky dive.
The channel will also screen a restored version of I Am Cuba, Mikhail Kalatozov's 1964 blend of documentary and drama charting the rise of the Cuban revolution – one of cinema's most innovative films. It's accompanied by I Am Cuba: The Siberian MammothM, Vicente Ferraz's 2005 documentary charting the making of the film
Finally, Film4 presents a series of Australia-themed screenings to mark the cinema release of Baz Luhrmann's epic of the same title. A season of Nicole Kidman films; a week of romantic favourites capturing the 'Spirit of Australia'; and a screening of William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet introduced by Luhrmann, are among the highlights.
