Pundit Closeup - Chris Tapp

Chris Tapp

Chris Tapp is the Director of Credit Action the national money education charity. Credit Action helps people manage their money better and aims to prevent debt from disrupting people's lives. Chris thinks that- while credit can be a good thing and credit card companies are businesses that need to make a profit - they have acted with no sense of social responsibility and have encouraged and relentlessly pushed credit on people, who simply cannot afford it. He believes that credit checks are not sufficient as they only look to an individual's past and do not assess their present financial situation. While, we now use credit to fund an aspirational lifestyle rather than to balance our monthly budgets- as it was once used for.
