Shocking pictures show damage at Glasgow School of Art

Firefighters had incredible success saving much of the Glasgow School of Art from a massive blaze – but the damage is still extensive, as these pictures show.

A huge fire swept through Glasgow School of Art on Friday, raising fears that the iconic building could be completely destroyed. But thanks to the work of local firefighters, much of the building was saved.

On Sunday, chair of the school Muriel Gray told Channel 4 News it was a miracle that around 95 per cent of the building and much of its precious contents had been salvaged from the flames.

However, heartbreakingly, the world-famous library designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh was completely destroyed, as these pictures show.
