Royal couple depart on secret honeymoon

William and Kate are understood to have left the UK for their honeymoon on Monday, more than a week after millions tuned in to watch their wedding at Westminster Abbey.

The destination of their post-wedding holiday has been kept secret as the Duke and Duckess of Cambridge have asked for privacy.

A spokesman for St James’s Palace said he would not confirm reports that the couple are headed for the Seychelles.

“We are not confirming and we are not commenting on speculation on where they may be going on their private honeymoon. We are just confirming that they have gone,” he said.

“The couple have asked that their privacy be respected during their honeymoon.”

Prince William returned to his job as an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot last week after marrying the former Kate Middleton in a ceremony celebrated around the world.

According to reports, his car was seen leaving Anglesey, north Wales, yesterday accompanied by a police Range Rover piled high with luggage.

St James’s Palace also declined to say how the long the honeymoon would be but confirmed that William had taken two weeks’ leave from operational duties.

Africa, Jordan, and private islands in the Caribbean such as Necker and Mustique have been suggested as possible honeymoon destinations, as well as the Seychelles.

William and Kate had a week-long break in August 2007 on the island of Desroches, a paradise just four miles long, about 150 miles south west of the Seychelles’ main island, Mahe.

It was reported that William told islanders the Desroches trip was the best holiday he had ever had.
