Fast & Furious actor Paul Walker dies in car crash

Paul Walker, who starred alongside Vin Diesel in the Fast & Furious action film series, dies in a car crash in Los Angeles.

The actor Paul Walker, best known for his role in the Fast & Furious film series, was a passenger in a friend’s Ferrari which crashed in southern California on Saturday.

Police arriving at the scene found the car engulfed in flames. and US media carried pictures of the burned out wreck on the side of the road. Both Mr Walker and his friend were pronounced dead at the scene.

Walker, 40, was attending an event for his charity Reach Out Worldwide.

A message on his Facebook page read: “It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident.

“He was a passenger in a friend’s car, in which both lost their lives. We appreciate your patience as we too are stunned and saddened beyond belief by this news.”

Mr Walker starred in five of the six Fast & Furious films, which centred on illegal street racing and heists. Mr Walker was working on the seventh film in the series.

His co-star in several of the films, Vin Diesel, said on his Instagram page: “Brother I will miss you very much. I am absolutely speechless. Heaven has gained a new Angel. Rest in Peace.”
