Missing mother ate insects for 17 days in rainforest

A mother, who stumbled naked out of an Australian rainforest after going missing 17 days ago, survived on just insects and creek water.

Shannon Fraser, 30, who disappeared in north-west of Innisfail, about an hour south of Cairns, Queensland after going for a walk with her partner on 21 September, was found found by a farmer on Wednesday.

She was severely sunburnt, dehydrated and was said to be covered in cuts, bites, and bruises.

Her partner, Heath Cassady, told the Courier Mail that they had been on a “bender” prior to her disappearance.

He said he left Ms Fraser sitting under shelter near the river, and when he returned she had disappeared.

An intense search followed as teams of police officers and volunteers serached the area.

Fearing that she may have been killed or attacked by a crocodile, detectives were called in as the search went on.

Her brother Dylan said: “She said she was that exhausted, couldn’t walk and felt like giving up but she stayed strong and made it out.”
