WAVE Trust (Worldwide Alternatives to Violence) is an international charity dedicated to advancing public awareness of the root causes of violence and the means to prevent and reduce violence in our society.
WAVE's particular focus is the reduction of child abuse and neglect, before it occurs, as it is the root cause of violent behaviour in teenagers and adults, and it underlies much emotional suffering in children and adults who may never be violent. WAVE's extensive research has shown that violence and abuse are entirely preventable through implementing known, economically viable and effective programmes to break the cycle of violence. WAVE has identified many, worldwide, best practice methods and programmes to address violence and actively promotes their implementation in our communities today.
In November 2007 WAVE trust hosted a conference for 300 senior police officers, school head teachers and senior local authority officers responsible for violence reduction, from the 33 London Boroughs. The conference, titled Working together to reduce serious youth violence was the culmination of several weeks of intensive interaction to find the most effective possible solutions to reducing serious youth violence.
The conference produced 45 specific action-oriented recommendations which can be found on the website.
