“To take the lead as a voice of intervention in support of protecting and preserving life healing our community and those affected by violent crimes”.
Not Another Drop (NAD) was established in February 2001, in response to a number of shootings in Harlesden. In the 18 months prior to the start of the NAD campaign, 12 people were seriously injured and 8 were killed at the hands of a gun. As a result NAD was born out of a unique collaboration between Brent Council, and the Metropolitan Police Service and most importantly the local community.
The cornerstone of NAD is the community and without the dedication and support of the people of Brent the past 7 years would not have been as successful. The community network of NAD continues to increase their membership and seeks new ways of working with all sectors of the community including those engaged in offending. Although NAD started as an anti gun-crime campaign it now incorporates knife and gang violence.
Our main objective is to create a safer community for all. The work of Not Another Drop has been prioritised for the forth-coming year and includes: Engagement with high risk individuals including young people on the cusp of criminal activity, community engagement and reassurance and to ensure that the work of Not Another Drop is underpinned by understanding of the issues and problems and not adopting a one size fits all approach. All our work is underpinned by evidence based practice and seeks to address the risk factors, which give rise to offending whilst nurturing the protective factors, in a holistic manner.
