In a personal polemic, Professor Nadey Hakim, World President, International College of Surgeons, examines the current kidney crisis in the UK.
Friday 16th February 7.30pm
Monday 19th February 1.55am (r)
He asks why we aren't doing more live transplants in the UK, given advances in surgical techniques and immunosuppressant drugs, and examines the dangers faced by people going abroad to buy a kidney on the black market.
He argues that the present system isn't working, and the only real way to stop patients going abroad for dangerous and illegal operations, or dying while they wait in this country, is to legalise the sale of human kidneys in the UK.
