How Not to Lose Your Identity
Bennett Arron portrait
Seven years ago, Bennett Arron was in serious debt. He owed thousands of pounds to mobile phone companies, catalogues and department stores. Only it wasn't him. As a victim of ID theft, credit was obtained in his name and enormous bills were racked up. Bennett and his pregnant wife, facing financial ruin, lost their home and were forced to move back in with his parents.

This documentary is Bennett's personal account of how having your identity stolen can ruin your life. He wants changes made to the system and believes that the only way anyone will listen is if he can demonstrate just how easy it still is to have your identity stolen.

Seven years on after his own painful experience, Bennett wants to let people know how vulnerable their personal details are, to stop them suffering as he did. The film follows Bennett as he first tries to steal the identity of a man who shares the name of his childhood hero, Peter Parker - a.k.a. Spider-Man. Bennett had planned to take his findings to the Home Office in the hope that changes would be made to the system. But when his meeting is cancelled and not rescheduled, Bennett has to take desperate measures to prove his point. He therefore sets out, and manages, to steal the identity of a politician once accountable for ID fraud, ex-Home Secretary Charles Clarke... with disastrous consequences.
