STANLEY JOHNSON, CONSERVATIVE, TEIGNBRIDGE
Stanley Johnson is the Conservative candidate for Teignbridge. Born and bred a Westcountryman, he has lived on an Exmoor farm since 1951.
A former Member of the European Parliament, where he was Vice-Chairman of the Environment Committee, he has worked for the World Bank and the European Commission.
He has had 10 books published dealing with environmental issues, as well as nine novels, including The Commisioner, which was made into a film starring John Hurt.
In 1983 he received the RSPCA Richard Martin Award for Outstanding Services to animal welfare and in 1984 the Greenpeace Award for Outstanding Services to the Environment. He was awarded the Newdigate Prize for Poetry in 1962. He is also a trustee of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and of Plantlife International.
Stanley has four children by his first marriage to the painter, Charlotte Johnson-Wahl, including Boris, MP for Henley and Editor of the Spectator. He also has two children, Julia and Max, by his second marriage to Jennifer.
