FRANK DOBSON, LABOUR, HOLBORN & ST PANCRAS
Frank Dobson is the Labour candidate for Holborn & St Pancras – a seat right in the heart of London, comprised of nine wards from the area covered by Camden Council. He has been the local MP since 1979.
Frank was born in 1940 and grew up near York. He was educated at Archbishop Holgate Grammar school and the London School of Economics. He worked for 12 years for the Central Electricity Generating Board and the Electricity Council. From 1975 he served as an Assistant Secretary in the Local Ombudsman's Office.
Frank joined the Labour Party in 1958 and before becoming an MP was a Camden Borough Councillor and Leader of the Council.
From 1981-1999, he has filled the positions of Opposition Spokesperson on Education, Shadow Health Minister, Shadow Leader of the House, Campaigns Co-ordinator, Shadow Energy Secretary, Shadow Employment Secretary, Shadow Transport Secretary, Shadow Environment Secretary, Shadow Minister for London and latterly Secretary of State for Health.
In October 1999, he resigned from the Cabinet to seek the Labour Party nomination to become Mayor for London.
Frank includes walking, the theatre and watching cricket and football as his main leisure pursuits and the problems of central London, transport, energy, South Africa, children’s play, redistribution of wealth and getting a better deal for individuals as his special political interests. He is married with three children.
