‘Meteor’ streaks across skies of France and Austria

Dashcams record what appears to be a meteor streaking across the skies of Austria, France and Switzerland, glowing brightly before it disappears from view.

The dashcams spotted what appeared to be a meteor travelling across the skies of Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland on Sunday night.

One camera, attached to the dashboard of a car travelling on a motorway in southern Germany, captured the meteor as its tail extended into the night sky (see above video).

The driver said the object was travelling from north to south, based on his direction of travel.

A second dashcam captured an object of similar shape, colour and speed as a car was said to have travelled a few miles south in Switzerland (see below video).

The object appears to spark briefly as a tail forms behind the main body, before disappearing from view.

Other reports placed a similar object in the skies above the north east of France and Austria, with one driver capturing the scene from their dashcam while driving through Austria’s tyrol region just before 9pm local time.

Witnesses told a Swiss newspaper they saw “a flash, like a thunderbolt”.
