The world's greatest marathon runners compete for total prize money of �194,000 and precious places in their nations' Olympic teams.

Wilson Kipsang leads the pack in his first attempt to win the men's marathon. His winning time is two hours four minutes and 44 seconds.

More than 37,500 runners started the 32nd London Marathon tackling the 26.2-mile course in bright sunshine and costumes to earn their marathon medals and raise money for countless charities.

David Weir's superb win was his sixth wheelchair title, matching the London record. Weir won by a second from Switzerland's Marcel Hug in one hour thirty-two minutes 26 seconds.

James Cracknell, the double Olympic gold medal winner with the British rowing team, continued his remarkable record of physical feats aiming to run a third sub-three hour marathon.

Fittingly, in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year, the marathon event had a Royal flavour thanks to Prince Harry who posed with marathon winners and race volunteers.

Celebrities including ex-Coronation Street actress Nikki Sanderson chased Britain's top marathon runners along with club runners and Guinness World record breakers.

Joggers and charity fund raisers brought up the rear of the marathon course, pounding the streets dressed as Wizard of Oz and other characters.

Wilson Kipsang celebrates crossing the finish line although he missed Emmanuel Mutai's course record by 4 seconds. He said winning was more important.
