The government’s deal with the UK’s biggest banks on lending and bonuses, which has been called “Project Merlin” is due to be released shortly.

The deal is expected to show how much the banks will lend out this year – expected to be around £190bn, as well as tackling the sensitive issue of bankers’ bonuses.

The announcement follows yesterday’s surprise news from the Chancellor that he was making the bank profits tax immediate, and indefinite.
