Lebanon, 2006: deserting Bint Jbeil

Four years ago our then foreign Kylie Morris and her team set out from Tyre, through a string of villages, to Bint Jbeil in the heart of Lebanon’s battleground – a land deserted and ravaged by war.

In this film Kylie and the team reveal the scale of destruction in the heart of Lebanon.

Twenty days of relentless bombardment of southern Lebanon had reduced homes and buildings to nothing – bodies still lay buried beneath tons of rubble.

A temporary halt to air strikes served only to reveal the sheer extent of the destruction already wrought.

“We are sorry for your pain, sorry for the deaths of woman and children in Qana,” Israel’s prime minister told the Lebanese people that evening.

But he insisted the war would not end until the threat of Hezbollah rockets was removed.
