A message on Lady Gaga’s official YouTube channel reads: “This account has been suspended due to multiple or severe violations of YouTube’s copyright policy.”

According to Time Out Tokyo the dispute centres around a video of the singer performing on a Japanese TV show.

It is believed footage was posted from Lady Gaga’s appearance on Smap x Smap.

A spokeswoman for YouTube told Channel 4 News she could not comment on individual videos.

On Monday Gaga tweeted about her performance on the show: “My performance+cooking show appearance on SMAP SMAP is airing now in Japan. Kawaii Monsters!”

Lady Gaga’s videos have had more than a billion hits on YouTube and her representatives will be able to appeal the decision to suspend her YouTube Channel.

The singer is no stranger to controversy.

In June a lawsuit was filed against accusing her of misleading fans over wristbands she was selling for victims of the Japanese tsunami.

The pop star’s website was selling five dollar (£3.13) wristbands which say “We Pray For Japan”.

But a lawsuit filed in Detroit noted that sales tax and a 3.99 US dollar (£2.49) shipping charge were added.

A spokesman for Lady Gaga said: “This misguided lawsuit is without merit and unfortunately takes attention away from the kind deeds of the fans around the world who are supporting the people of Japan.

“The entire five dollar donation made with the purchase of each bracelet is going to support the disaster relief. No profit is being made on shipping costs. Sales tax charges were made in accordance with local legal requirements.

“Lady Gaga has personally pledged her own funds to this cause and continues to support the victims of the disaster.”
