Propaganda reveals ‘happy life’ in Islamic State

You don’t expect LOL moments from Isis – the extremists who declared an Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. But the group’s propaganda message is not all about death and jihad.

From singing to posing inside a rocket launcher, the publicity wing of the Islamic State (IS) has published several high-production videos showing the lighter side of life under the self-declared caliphate.

It’s all fun and games, according to the recent propaganda released by the group’s media department, with one comical picture labelled “Isis sends man to space”.

Al Hayat Media Center published its latest episode of “Mujatweets”, recruitment videos designed to gather followers, in which insurgents are seen happily living alongside residents in Iraq. Day-to-day activities shown in the footage include arm-wrestling, swimming, even providing local entertainent for children.

In one such video released, insurgents are seen to be handing out sweets and ice cream to children. Bouncy castles and machine guns were also on the list of amusements, according to the propaganda videos.

In several of the videos, insurgents are seen singing together, and even shopping for vegetables at a local market. Some of the content has English subtitles, suggesting they are designed as a recruitment tool for western audiences.

The media centre is said to have launched in May, according to MEMRI. The extremism monitoring group reported that one of the main figures behind the media branch is said to be German-rapper-turned-Jihadi-fighter Abu Talha al Almani or Deso Dogg.
