Inside Jordan's Za'atari refugee camp

Channel 4 News cameraman Ben Martin films in the Za'atari refugee camp on the Jordanian/Syrian border.

More than half of Za'atari's 65,000 refugees are children.

Aid agencies say about a quarter of a million loaves of bread are distributed every day here.

Syrian refugees are reportedly flooding in at the rate of 3,000 people a night

Refugees are provided with dry food rations and other cooking essentials but the camp is chronically underfunded.

Aid agencies say there is enough food to go around, but children were sneaking into the distribution area to try to get more bread.

The United Nations says it needs $500m just to keep Za'atari camp running until June.

Families and entire neighbourhoods have travelled over the border together to flee the violence.

More than 52,000 Syrians have crossed into Jordan during January alone. Every morning there are thousands of new arrivals.

Special child friendly zones have been created in the camp to provide playgrounds for Za'atari's vast population of children.

Jordan has said its borders will remain open for the time being, but that it urgently needs help dealing with this deepening crisis.
