Man charged with murder of Georgia Williams

Detectives charge Jamie Reynolds with the teenager’s murder and reveal they have found the body of a young woman in woodland near Wrexham.

West Mercia Police said new evidence suggests Georgia, 17, was killed at an address in Wellington, Shropshire.

They confirmed that the body of a young woman has been found in woods near the Nant-y-Garth pass near Wrexham in north Wales following a search earlier today.

Reynolds, 22, is due to appear at Telford magistrates’ court tomorrow.

Georgia was last seen by her parents leaving the family home in the town on Sunday evening. She said she was going to stay with friends but her parents reported her missing on Tuesday.

On Wednesday Jamie Reynolds was arrested in Glasgow on suspicion of kidnapping Georgia.

Link to murder inquiry

Superintendent Nav Malik said the body had not yet been formally identified but is “linked” to the murder inquiry.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday afternoon, he told reporters: “Within the last hour, following liaison with the Crown Prosecution Service, we have charged 22-year-old Jamie Reynolds with the murder of Georgia Williams.

“Sadly, yesterday afternoon, new evidence came to light which identified that Georgia had in fact died at an address in Wellington, near Telford here.

“Clearly that information has led us to where we are today.

“I can also confirm that late this afternoon the body of a female, a young female, has been found in woodland in the pass near Nant-y-Garth in Wrexham, north Wales.

“At this moment in time we haven’t identified that body, but early indications do suggest it is linked to the disappearance of Georgia Williams.”

Mr Malik said Georgia’s father, a detective constable with the West Mercia force, was “emotional”, adding: “Whenever someone from the police family is involved, it is particularly distressing.”
