Did you see Fred Perry win Wimbledon in 1936?

What is it like to watch a British man lift the Wimbledon trophy? As Andy Murray battles for the biggest prize in tennis, Channel 4 News is hunting a spectator who saw Fred Perry triumph in 1936.

Wimbledon: Fred Perry - did you see him win Wimbledon in 1936?

A Wimbledon hero, world number one… and British.

Fred Perry won three titles at the All England Club and eight Grand Slams in all. He was the Roger Federer of his day and, like the Swiss, spawned his own sporting brand; the Fred Perry laurel wreath is probably the most famous tennis brand mark there is. He was a true legend.

Perry was the last British man to win Wimbledon – in 1936. It’s a fact all too present in the mind of Andy Murray who in 2011 is hoping to break Britain’s long drought.

So were you there on that triumphant day, 75 years ago? Have you experienced the feeling of watching British hands clutch the Wimbledon trophy?

If so, Channel 4 News wants to hear from you.

Contact us if you, a friend or relative saw Perry play in the 1930s. We’re particularly keen to talk to anybody who remembers him play in his successful championships of 1934, 1935 or 1936.
