Family values for leaders’ Christmas cards

Family is the theme of the three main party leaders’ Christmas cards this year, with all three offerings featuring their wives and children.

Cameron card

Prime Minister David Cameron used the now famous shot of him with wife Samanatha and their new baby daughter.

The image was captured on the steps of Downing Street after they returned from Cornwall with newborn Florence Rose Endellion for the first time on 3 September.

Inside the card it reads “Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”.

It is a stylistic transformation from last year’s austere-looking card, which showed a snow-blanketed Big Ben behind the Tory tree logo.

Ed Miliband Christmas card

Labour leader Ed Miliband‘s obviously been dreaming of a black and white christmas with his Yuletide card showing him with his partner Justine Thornton and their sons Daniel and Samuel, with the card simply reading “Season’s Greetings”.

Gordon Brown Christmas Card

Last year, Gordon Brown‘s card showed a lone miniature Number 10 ornament, hanging from a worryingly flimsy-looking holly branch.

The Clegg family Christmas card '10

And the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Nick Clegg, has baked up this year’s card depicting his family as gingerbread characters.

Drawn by Mr Clegg’s children, it shows him with his omni-present yellow tie and carrying a mobile phone.

The Clegg family Christmas card '09

It is the second year running that Antonio and Alberto have designed his card. Last year they drew the Cleggs in a more realism-influenced style, with the family around a Christmas tree, their father caressing a reindeer and a giant Santa Claus with a dodgy-looking goatee hovering on the sidelines.

So, in the spirit of the season, we thought this could be an ideal family game. Tweet us your captions – using the hashtag #c4news – for the three leaders’ cards – we’ll publish the best suggestions. You can also e-mail us at news@channel4.com But remember – keep it clean.
