Ex-Beatle McCartney weds US heiress Nancy Shevell

Sir Paul McCartney has married for the third time, exchanging vows with American heiress Nancy Shevell at Marylebone registry office.

The former Beatle married his first wife, Linda, at the same location in 1969.

Shevell, 51, wore a knee-length, long-sleeved white dress and white decoration in her hair. McCartney wore a dark suit and lilac tie.

The couple emerged after an hour to cheering from fans, and were taken to a reception nearby.

Ringo Starr, the only other surviving member of The Beatles, attended the ceremony with his wife, Barbara Bach.

McCartney was married for 29 years to American photographer Linda Eastman until her death from breast cancer in 1998.

In 2002 he married Heather Mills in a lavish ceremony at Castle Leslie, in Ireland. But four years later the couple confirmed they had separated. In 2008 they divorced.

Heather Mills was awarded £24.3m in the divorce settlement.
