The cyclist, who is leading the Tour de France, says the urine was thrown at him during stage 14 of the race.
Chris Froome told ITV4 that: “A spectator threw a cup of urine in my face and said ‘doper’.” He went on to say, “it’s extremely, extremely wrong on so many different levels. I’m really disappointed about that, it’s not in the name of sport.
“Unfortunately I think a lot of the reporting on the race has been very irresponsible.
“Having said that we’ve had some fantastic support and there are a great number of fans out on the road but unfortunately some people ruin it for everyone else.”
On twitter Froome said:
Disappointing that a French â??fanâ? ruined a great day for me today. Congrats @StevoCummings @TeamMTNQhubeka #MandelaDay @letour

Thank you to the real fans who come out to support all the riders every day. Pity such a small minority can have such a negative impact #TDF

The 30-year-old athlete has always maintained he is a clean rider, saying, “I do understand where the questions are coming from, the history of the sport and the people before me who have won the Tour. I am sympathetic, but at the same time there needs to be a certain level of respect also. I’ve worked extremely hard to get here. I’m not going to let anyone take that away from me.”
On twitter Lance Armstrong, who was stripped of his yellow jerseys after admitting using performance-enhancing drugs, posted:
1. Clearly Froome/Porte/Sky are very strong. Too strong to be clean? Don’t ask me, I have no clue.

The cyclist, who took part in a charity ride along the roads of the Tour, said it was because of him that Chris Froome has to answer questions about doping at the Tour de France and he told Sky Sports News that he felt “bad about it”.
