Channel 4 News launches free app for iPad and iPhone

The app, which carries programme video, special reports, blogs and picture galleries, is free and is available on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

The app delivers Channel 4’s distinctive brand of award-winning news and analysis in a format that is accessible, intuitive and available offline. The app is the latest in a series of innovations from the channel.

Last year, the website was relaunched in order to reflect the values of the 7pm programme, featuring in-depth special reports on topics ranging from the G20 riots to Sri Lanka’s civil war, and live blogs on breaking news stories, including commentary from specialist editors and correspondents.

Channel 4 News unveils new app

The new app will carry the most popular website features – including Jon’s Snow daily Snowblog and Catch-Up videos from the last seven days.

Users will be able to update the content in line with the day’s news via wi-fi or 3G connectivity, so they can view:

  • All the latest top domestic and international news stories, plus the most important news from the worlds of politics, science and technology, business and culture, from the Channel 4 News team of correspondents and reporters.
  • All the Channel 4 News blogs, including Cathy Newman’s FactCheck and the World News Blog.
  • Special Reports and Galleries (iPad only)
  • Catch up – to watch video of the last seven days from the Channel 4 News at 1900 and noon programmes.

The app will allow users to share all of this content through social media and email.

The app is available to download from the Apple app store (an Android version is due in the coming months). You can watch Jon Snow talking about the app here, or go here for more info: Channel 4 News App.

Vicky Taylor, Commissioning Editor New Media, News and Current Affairs at Channel 4 News, says: “This app embraces the best of Channel 4 News – and we want it to be as accessible as we can make it, so it will be completely free to download.
