Drive-through gone wrong

Diners at a Californian restaurant sit down to dinner when a car smashes through the restaurant’s glass front, after the driver mistakes accelerator pedal for the brake.

Footage from surveillance cameras inside and outside the restaurant show a silver car mounting the curb in front of the restaurant.

The car knocked into a customer who was walking out the door but luckily, he tumbled over the bonnet and escaped serious injuries. Two other customers suffered minor injuries.

The driver emerged from the silver car once inside the Surati Farsan Mart in Miramar, near San Diego, looking shell-shocked and confused.

“I was sitting at that restaurant. I heard the noise of the tyres immediately, broken glass and the scream of the ladies,” said Amir Eslami, who was in the restaurant at the time.

Police say the driver wasn’t hurt, and that his explanation was that he mistook the accelerator pedal for the brake.

It is not yet known if the driver will be charged for the incident.
