Zimbabwe vote-rigging film found

New evidence of vote-rigging in last month's presidential election in Zimbabwe has been found.

A secret film shot by a prison guard at his jail in a production for Guardian films shows the vote-rigging.

The guard, Shepherd Yuda said that he hoped the film would further draw attention to the violence and corruption in Zimbabwe.

Mr Yuda has worked in the prison service for 13 years and used the hidden camera to film six days prior to last Friday's run-off election in which Mugabe claimed victory with 90 per cent of the vote.

Mr Yuda said: "How can a government that claimed to be democratically elected kill its people, murder its people, torture its people?"

Mr Mugabe has been under mounting international pressure since the presidential election in which he was elected for a sixth term.

On Friday, the US sent a draft resolution to the United Nations calling for sanctions against Mugabe and demanding that his government begin talks with the opposition - Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

If the UN's Security Council is adopted, Mr Mugabe's financial assets would be frozen and 11 other Zimbabwean officials and they would be banned from travelling.
