'US missiles' kill two in Pakistan
Updated on 05 November 2009
Suspected US missiles have killed two alleged militants in a north-western tribal region of Pakistan, intelligence officials said, while Pakistani soldiers battled Taliban fighters in a neighbouring area along the Afghan border.
The attack indicated the US will not sideline a favourite tactic against Islamist extremists despite Pakistani concerns that the missile strikes anger insurgents who have agreed to stay neutral as the army wages an offensive against the Pakistani Taliban in South Waziristan.
The military said that 28 militants and five soldiers had been killed in the last 24 hours of fighting in South Waziristan.
