'Uranium traces on N Korea tubes'
Updated on 21 December 2007
Scientists found traces of enriched uranium on aluminium tubing from North Korea, which appears to contradict its denials of a secret uranium-based nuclear programme, the Washington Post reported.
While acknowledging its plutonium-based weapons programme, North Korea has persistently denied US allegations that it had engaged in inappropriate uranium-based activities.
America has highlighted North Korea's production of thousands of aluminium tubes saying they could be used as the outer casing for centrifuges needed to spin hot uranium gas into the fuel for nuclear weapons.
