Turkey recalls ambassador to US
Updated on 11 October 2007
Turkey has asked its ambassador in Washington to return home.
An official said Ambassador Nabi Sensoy had been recalled for consultations over a US congressional panel's decision to approve a Bill describing the First World War-era killings of Armenians as genocide.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Levent Bilman said Mr Sensoy would stay in Turkey for a week or 10 days for discussions regarding the vote, which came despite warnings by Turkish officials and US President George Bush's administration that the Bill could harm US-Turkish relations.
