Swiss police probe synagogue fire
Updated on 25 May 2007
Forensic specialists have been deployed to determine what caused a blaze at the Swiss city Geneva's largest synagogue.
A sniffer dog was brought in to search for traces of flame accelerants - which might indicate arson - and a fuse box is being analysed to see whether an electrical fault is to blame for the fire on Thursday that caused serious damage to the interior of the Hekhal Haness Synagogue, police spokesman Philippe Cosandey said.
The incident caused shock among Geneva's Jewish community and raised fears the fire might have been an anti-Semitic attack.
