"Sleepy" is the word that's most often used to describe Suffolk. But the murder of at least three prostitutes in the Ipswich area in the last ten days is providing a crucial test for the county's police force, which is one of the smallest in Britain.

There are doubts about whether Suffolk is capable of dealing with a major investigation, and officers have been drafted in from neighbouring counties to help.

Only two months ago, police inspectors said they were concerned that Suffolk constabulary lacked the resilience to deal with a major crime. Here's Julian Rush.
