Sony to shed 8,000 electronics jobs

Sony is slashing 8,000 electronics jobs around the world, or 5% of its global workforce in that sector, in a wider effort to boost profitability in its core business.

The company said it planned to reduce employment in its electronics operations, now at about 160,000 workers, by March 31, 2010.

It did not give a country breakdown on the planned reductions.
