Second World War bombs defused
Updated on 04 January 2009
Experts have disposed of four unexploded Second World War bombs in a western German city in an operation that prompted authorities to evacuate some 15,000 residents.
City spokesman Sven Juergensen said the bombs were found near empty houses in Osnabrueck - some of which once housed families of British soldiers stationed in Germany.
The devices are believed to have been dropped by British planes during wartime raids and were located with the help of aerial photographs.
