Russia must reform or die: Medvedev
Updated on 12 November 2009
Russia needs to totally reform its economy to survive in the modern world, president Dmitry Medvedev has said.
He ordered a sweeping modernisation of ageing Soviet-built military arsenals and called for a foreign policy aimed at attracting investment and improving living standards.
"We mustn't puff out our chest," he said in his annual state of the nation address. "We are interested in the flow of capital, new technologies and modern ideas."
