Petraeus warns of 'long campaign'
Updated on 10 July 2009
The head of US operations in Afghanistan has warned of tough months ahead in the fight against the Taliban.
General David Petraeus, chief of the US Central Command in Afghanistan, described the battle in the southern region of the country as "the longest campaign" during an address in San Francisco.
His comments come as the death toll of allied forces continues to rise, with nine British soldiers killed in the last nine days alone.
