A filthy, vermin-infested jail, short of food and rife with drugs: that's the damning verdict today on London's Pentonville Prison.
The Chief Inspector of Prisons, Anne Owers, says it has an "institutional disrespect" of inmates, with an "unusually high" level of alleged assaults by prison officers.
And there's a similarly-critical report for Peterhead prison in Aberdeen, where inmates are still ' slopping out' and living in the worst conditions of any jail in Scotland.
