Parrot swearing by new leg
Updated on 27 February 2008
A one-legged parrot is set to get his first unruffled night's sleep for months thanks to a scientific breakthrough.
George, an African grey parrot, lost his left leg when he was attacked by a wild animal who got into his cage in Crewe, Cheshire.
Since parrots sleep standing up, George has been suffering from insomnia ever since.
And since he has a habit of swearing loudly whenever he topples off his perch, George's affliction has been making life hard for owner Sheila Weare.
Now Dr Glynn Heath from the University of Salford has designed a prosthetic leg for George.
The parrot hasn't quite the hang of wearing an artificial limb but when he does, it will be sweet dreams all round.
