Combining the machismo of Action Man with the glamour of Barbie, a new 12-inch tall action figure of vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been made.

There are three versions of the action figure - an executive, a schoolgirl and a .45 calibre gun-toting superhero. The executive action figure sells for $28 (£14) and the school girl and the superhero retail at $30 (£15).

The toy's creator, Emil Vicale, President of Herobuilders.com, admits the clothing for the figurine more accurately resembles Angelina Jolie's character in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

He said: "We have the executive model which is in a tasteful executive navy blue suit. We also have the superhero model where she is dressed in like a Tomb Raider kinda outfit. She's also carrying a holstered .45. You need that when you are moose hunting. You gotta have that. And then we have a little more exotic fare, and it's a school girl outfit. Yes."

After going on sale, Vicale revealed consumer response has been good. He said: "The reaction has just been insane. It's probably going to end up being one of our biggest sellers, and we've sold runs of 25,000 units at a time. So I think it's going to go past that."

Mr Vicale also offers a variety of John McCain and Barack Obama action figures and revealed he is working on a Joe Biden figure.
