Unwelcome news for anyone with a dodgy back - getting treatment from an osteopath or chiropractor could be a waste of money, according to a new report.
In a damming five year study of 'alternative medicine treatments' - experts from the Peninsula Medical School have cast doubt over the use of spinal manipulation.
They found there was little evidence it is effective for any medical condition'' and warned that patients perceive government regulation as proof of the usefulness of treatment
And, urged the study, this should serve as a wake up call to the chiropractic profession'
The British Chiropractic Association and the General Osteopathic Council strongly disputed the findings.
